Promises: A Life Filled with Love

And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him.” (1 John 4:16, CSB)

You are loved. You are loved with a love that is willing to lay down their life for your sake. God is love, and He loves you.  As we abide in that love, as God’s love fills our life, we increasingly love God and others with the same kind of love.  It’s a love that we will never find the end of.

The Bible says, “and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:19, CSB) Love surpasses knowledge. It is difficult to explain fully. This kind of love is a feeling, a reason, an action, and a response all rolled together.

Love results in obedience. We love God and seek to follow His ways. “The one who has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father. I also will love him and will reveal myself to him.” (John 14:21, CSB) Love is our motivation.

We see all of this in Christ. Jesus gave himself for us out of love. He obeyed the Father out of love. He called people to follow and learn of His love. Jesus was moved with compassion, which is love motivating an action.

All God’s commands are boiled down to love—we are to love God with our hearts, souls, minds, bodies, and strength and love others.

To be filled with love, we must empty ourselves of ourselves and invite Jesus to rule our hearts. The more we empty ourselves, the more we are filled with love and the more love we have to share with others. God never runs out of love.
